Countdown to 5th Race (Virginia Beach, VA RnR 1/2)
% of Goal Met
If I raise $725 per race I run, I will most definitely hit my goal. Please be a part of this opportunity to help others!
My step-son Deavon was born with Tetrology of Fallot (ToF), a rare heart condition characterized by four heart defects present at birth. To date he has had over a half-dozen invasive heart surgeries and dozens of procedures to improve his quality of life and heart function. He’s a survivor and inspiration to his family and friends.
As a first year college student, Deavon has hopes and dreams of writing and directing his own films and working in the entertainment industry to tell stories. And He has many stories to tell. He looks up to creatives like Martin Scorcese and Steven Spielberg and really believes stories have the power to change the world.
Life-Changing Experiences at Camp del Corazon
Camp del Corazon is a spring of positivity and inspiration to those coping and accepting of conditions as children. Annually, for 1 week, kids and teenagers from across the country with similar heart conditions and defects, gather on Catalina Island along with doctors, nurses, and camp counselors (who all go by really cool codenames like ‘Big Kahuna’, ‘Shrek’, ‘Hollywood’, and ‘Heavy D’) to just go be normal kids. Each year he’s returned from camp loaded with countless stories, emotions, jokes, songs, camp cheers, and dances that filled his heart and ours.
I’m going to run to make sure we can keep this good stuff going!
I am so thankful for the influence that these volunteers and this organization has had on my step son–and that is why I am running and raising funds. I’m aiming to run at least 6 Half Marathons through Rock n’ Roll and 1 Ragnar Race by year’s end and would like to raise as much money for this charity as I can. If you’ve been touched or inspired by Deavon’s story or other similar stories (such as Jimmy Kimmel’s whose son also has ToF), please consider donating to Camp del Corazon through this donation page. All proceeds go directly to them. (Don’t worry, I’ve already paid my fees for all the runs — let’s get them the money they need to keep this important program strong and running!)
